What is the difference between the body-sculpting performed by Dr.Taerri & traditional liposuction?

Anesthesia Local anesthetic (tumescent technique) is used to numb the skin and tissue. Further more Epinephrine is added to the local anesthesia solution, which shrinks capillaries and minimizes blood loss. Particular Anti-Aging and healing micro-nutrition is added to help with healing and achieving a smoother results. General anesthesia or deep sedation are used in a surgical setting exposing patients to its possible side effects and complications including drowsiness, nausea, allergic reactions, infections, and embolism.
Location Medical-Office Surgery Center
Can be as little as half a day, up to a few days depending how many areas are treated. Less post-surgical irregularities, dimpling or rippling of the skin. Depends on areas treated, but typically 3-4 days, up to a week of rest and recovery.
Cannula Used Thin and delicate micro-cannula used would allow the Physician to artistically shape the body with much better accuracy and control. It also decreases blood loss, brushing, less irregularities of the skin, less vascular injury, and minimal lymphatic system disruption. Larger cannula

Less control over sculpting and more traumatic. Higher blood loss.

Cost Lower than liposuction since general anesthesia and hospital stay are not needed, about $1,500 per area. Depending on the case, but typically ranges anywhere from $5,000 – $10,000+.
Scaring The incision is smaller than 1/8 of an inch and will not require sutures. We also place them in the most inconspicuous areas possible, and they almost always heal to be invisible. The incisions are larger and typically sutures are used, often result in scaring.
Areas Treated The tumescent technique, patient’s ability to reposition throughout the procedure for accurate and thorough treatment, and use of smaller cannula all would allow removal of undesired fat from nearly all body area, including the chest, face, neck, chin, breast, back, arms, abdomen, hips, flanks (love handles), inner and outer thighs, buttocks, knees and ankles. Areas with large volumes of fat, such as the abdomen and buttocks.

What is tumescent local anesthesia technique used in Body-Sculpting?
Tumescent local anesthesia was invented by a dermatologist in the mid 1980’s and has revolutionized the method of liposuction. It is considered a major advancement that has completely changed surgical fat removal. It is regarded as the “best” type of liposuction surgery to date.

A large volume of saline solution containing the anesthetic and a drug called “epinephrine” is injected directly into the areas where there are excessive fatty deposits. This solution completely numbs the area due to the effect of the local anesthetic, therefore general anesthesia or heavy intravenous sedation is not required. Furthermore, micronutrients can be added to the solution for enhancing healing. During the procedure, the patient is alert, and comfortable enough to listen to music, or converse with the physician during the procedure. Tumescent body-sculpting actually enables more fat removal than traditional liposuction because the local anesthesia breaks apart the fat making it easier to extract.

Are Body-Sculpting results permanent?
Yes. We are born with a limited number of fat cells. Once they are removed by body-sculpting, they will not come back. As a highly specialized physician in weight management, Dr. Taerri will guide you to an effective post-op diet, supplemental regimen and exercise program to further enhance the effects of your procedure, and lead you to a more heightened and healthier lifestyle.

What to expect after surgery?
You will experience some swelling as the body heals; however, the majority of the swelling subsides in the first few weeks. Those with non-strenuous jobs can return to work the day after the procedure or a day or two if multiple areas were treated. Some patient may feel temporary numbness in the treated area since some local anesthetic lingers in the tissue up to a day following the procedure. Some patients may experience minor discomfort after the numbness wears off which can be managed with a mild pain killer. Physical exercise is not recommended until at least a week after the procedure. Patients often report a sense of well being, and increased energy levels in addition to the aesthetic improvement.

Follow up visits to monitor the results and reassessment are as follows: 1-2 days, 1 month, 4 months, 6 months and 12 months post procedure. Depending on the procedure, he will recommend a regimen of a few sessions of therapies for achieving optimal skin tightening, cellulite removal, and finer contouring.

About 95% of patients can actually see improvement in their silhouette within days after surgery. However, because of the slow resolution of post-procedure swelling, the final results following body-sculpting cannot be assessed until a few months after the procedure.

Our staff has performed over several thousands treatments and we are prepared to use our experience and expertise to provide results with a high patient satisfaction.

Is Body-Sculpting painful?
The only discomfort you will feel are the initial pinches when we begin to numb the area. These are not even as painful as getting your blood drawn. Once the area is numbed, you will not feel anything.

Recovery after tumescent body-sculpting is actually far less painful than traditional liposuction since the local numbing wears off slowly and provides lasting pain control. Also, there is no nausea or sick feeling that sometimes occurs after sedation.

How safe is Body-Sculpting?
Body-sculpting done with only local anesthesia has an excellent safety record. In a very large study, not a single one had a serious complication or infection. On the other hand, liposuction done under general anesthesia can lead to serious injury or death. In a survey of plastic surgeons that previously had cosmetic surgery themselves, 90% had chosen to have local anesthesia over general anesthesia. There is medical evidence that the local anesthetic used kills the bacteria and may account for the rarity of infection incidence with this technique. For extra assurance, Dr. Taerri is trained in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and his surgical team is fully certified in emergency resuscitation.

What to expect during surgery day?
Anxious patients will be given an oral calming medication. The procedure begins with the doctor carefully marking the pockets of fat that will be targeted. The skin and fat is numbed with a saline-based lidocaine solution. The solution and the unwanted fat are safely removed using a small cannula (1/8 of inch).

Once your procedure is done, the physician or his staff will apply an antibiotic ointment to the incision sites and a compression garment if needed (which will be worn for a few weeks). This helps to minimize the site swelling. Recovery is fast, and this is one of the biggest advantages of performing body-sculpting using only local anesthesia. You will be able to walk immediately after the procedure. While some patients do drive themselves home, we recommend having a driver particularly if multiple areas were treated.

What is the cost?
As there is no facility or anesthesiologist to pay, the cost of tumescent body-sculpting is significantly less than other types of liposuction.
