Spider and Varicose Vein Treatment
Spider Veins are those tiny blood vessels that appear on the skin, most commonly nose area and lower extremities. Varicose Veins are larger and appears on the back of the legs. The best therapy for the varicose vein is by sclerotherapy(by injecting a medication, with a tiny and painless needle, that occlude the vein lumen which in turn causes its demise in a few days due to the lack of circulation).
The laser now can effectively eliminate small spider veins and in combination with sclerotherapy in case of large spider vein. Most of the varicose veins need injection therapy and most of the small spider veins can be treated solely by laser. In order to mechanically help with sclerotherapy-treated vein, for the first two days, wrapped gauze is secured with tape on the tope of each vein treated and an elastic band is applied. This should be worn for the first 48 hours. On the third to fifth day after the procedure a compression hosiery with pressure from 30 to 40 mmhg is vital for the results.
It is recommended to continue with usual activities. No pain medication or rest period is necessary after treatment and can be done as a “lunch time procedure”. Due to the spillage of dead vein, there will be some dark discoloration for a few weeks that will resolve.
